This is a software tool that can help monitor connections automatically with hosts on the local net as well as the wider Internet.
Ping Monitor is an automatic tool for tracking connections with hosts locally as well as distant ones on the Internet. The way the connection status is determined is to send ping messages to the specified host and analyze the responses by the host to the ping request. Should the ping request fail a defined number of times one after the other, the application will report a connection failure. This monitor can be working all the time. Connection states and connection status data is present on the interface. The statistics that are presented include parameters for every host such as monitoring time, uptime percentage, total number of detected outages, percent of passed pings and ping statistics. One can easily evaluate the quality and the stability of the connection. The interface presents the data quite neatly.
With a lot of information available on the interface, you will need to spend some familiarization time to be able to track the data of interest easily. The application also offers extended notifications and a reporting functionality. The tool can be configured to report connection loss, restoration, etc. as system tray notifications or as emails to relevant people. If required custom handlers also can be set up. These get executed when a particular event happens and you could configure any command or executable file with optional command-line parameters. Special terminate actions can be set up. For example if all the connections are lost one could arrange to make shutdown, reboot, hibernate and log-off operations on the computer where Ping Monitor is working. This is quite a useful tool.
